I am not an expert in moonology (yet) but if you also get affected emotionally by the moon perhaps you will find this blog useful in learning how we can synchronise with the full lunar cycle and use this times for self-reflection and improvement.

Since becoming a professional coach, I have been closely observing my own behaviour to try to identify negative patterns that do not serve me. This is when I started noticing that my worst peeks of negative emotional behaviour usually happened before a full moon night.

I have always paid particular attention to the moon and how it makes me feel. I remember those evenings in Italy when the "Red Moon" (La Luna Rossa) appeared in the blue sky of my seaside town and every other time when the Silver moon was the light in the darkness. For me, seeing the moon is always a magical reminder that there is more, so much more, out there. Such a boost to dream BIG!

I live in London, in a busy central area near the Chelsea riverside. I don't get to see the moon as I used to. By saying that, I rest assured that if the moon is out, I will know. Her nurturing light will come through the buildings reminding me that there's so much magic in this life that we don't see or acknowledge. Behind the big obstructing city buildings she rises and it's always such an exciting surprise to find her. (I refer to the moon as female energy).

So I have noticed that it was not a coincidence that the day before a full moon, I feel strange, unnecessarily stressed like I am holding the weight of the world. I don't know about you, but I feel like an enormous dark cloud covering my soul. I used to think of hormonal imbalances. I get attacked by my own weaknesses and I have the fear that nothing will ever change. So what does a coach do? I wear my trainers and I get OUT! I run to the riverside near my house. I feel the breeze of the river, I reconnect with nature, I look up at the sky and I breathe. Then I get back and plan.

The Dark side of the moon

I always giggle when people diminish the power of the moon. They think it's something separated from us, over there, somewhere far. I have noticed that the day before a full moon, the river fills up with water to a point that you wonder if it's going to overflow. Yeap, the moon has effect on water, our planet and yes, humans.

So here's how I feel: Full. Full of negative thoughts and near to overflow. No matter how well I am doing in life, how successful, loved and supported I am, the day before a full moon all my ghosts rise up with doubts, fears and weaknesses. This is a time for me to observe, feel and reflect. So I came up with a plan which I want to share with you.

Ok, I wake up and feel manipulated by negative emotions so I practice my gratitude and I accept that today it's going to be a "sensitive" day.

At the first occasion, I meditate with the intentions of overflowing with tears (there's no shame in crying. Crying is releasing!) and let go some of the unsettling feelings. I apply Reiki and I plan a nostalgic walk into the past with hands on my heart. While I get ready, I listen to old Italian love songs (oh dear!)

At work, I wear my best clothes, my jewellery and my Chanel lipstick. I treat myself to a comfort dinner, I run a bath with candles and Epsom salts, I read a book and stay away from media. (Unless you wish to cry some more with a very sad movie, ah!)

After my morning/evening run/jog/walk, I start writing WHAT I feel, what I need to get accomplished (because life goes on) and what I can do for myself to make me feel better within the available time. I usually feel tired, lethargic, I don't have my usual fun bubbly energy so I understand that is time for me to retrieve and look inside. I take it as a let-go-of-control day.

Planning is crucial on this day because the energy is low and the confusion is high. I must have a clear list of important tasks that MUST happen so that any leftover time is for me. Of course you can apply what works best for you. The plan is to give yourself a hug, let go of control, look inside, analyse what's wrong and love yourself. Tomorrow will be a better day.

On the brighter side...

The moon has a powerful effect on our emotions. Use this occasion to think of your purpose, your life mission, your unique journey on Earth. Feel empowered remembering that we can be in control of our lives, there's always something we can do to make it better, we have the choice.

The full moon is time for reflection and release. The moon calls us to be dynamic and to take action towards our goals and dreams.

The Day of the Full Moon

I wake up earlier than usual to go out in the morning for a longer walk, jog, breathing and meditation. It helps clearing my mind, find my creative flow and to set the day with an energetic boost. I feel usually more energised compared to the day before. The dark cloud is probably gone by now and I feel it's time to #reset.

During the day I fast, I drink lots of water and herbal teas. After work I prepare a healthy, colourful and nourishing candlelight dinner with the hope that the night sky will be clear from clouds so we can dine under the moonlight ( can you hear the Italian mandolin playing in the background?)

I basically treat full moons days as a celebration. Whether you believe or not in any of this, the point here is to try to live in harmony with nature and to find an excuse to celebrate, reflect and focus on our dreams. That's what the full moon reminds me to do.

It's good to have such a bright seasonal reminder of our own existence on this planet. Set your intentions tonight, spread the love, feel empowered and think of your own unique journey on Earth.

Happy Full moon Day!
